‘God is blessing me so I can bless others’: Woman Donates Entire Lottery Winnings to Charity

Inspiring, World

A Virginia woman has turned a $150,000 Powerball win into an act of profound generosity, donating the entire amount to three charities close to her heart.

How She Won

Carrie Edwards of Midlothian, Virginia, matched four of the five white balls plus the Powerball number in the September 8 drawing. By opting for the $1 Power Play add on, her $50,000 prize tripled to $150,000. She had used ChatGPT to help select her numbers, a decision that led to her unexpected windfall.

Her Decision to Donate

Upon learning of her win, Edwards felt a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility. She announced her intention to donate the entire prize, stating, “I feel blessed that this unexpected lottery win can serve a greater purpose.”

The Charities She Chose

Edwards divided the $150,000 equally among three organizations:

Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD): This donation honors her late husband, Steve, who passed away from frontotemporal degeneration. The gift aims to support research and provide resources for families affected by early-onset dementia.

Shalom Farms: Based in Richmond, this nonprofit focuses on food justice and equity, working to provide fresh, healthy food to underserved communities.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society: This organization offers financial assistance, educational scholarships, and emergency support to active duty and retired service members and their families.

Her Message

Edwards expressed that her donations represent “healing, service, and community.” She hopes her actions inspire others to use their blessings to help those in need. “God is blessing me so I can bless others,” she said.

Her selfless act has garnered widespread praise, highlighting the impact of using personal blessings to support meaningful causes.
