On the 2nd of October 2023, president Cyril Ramaphosa posted the following Facebook article:
The economy is now larger than it was before the pandemic and the 2 million jobs that were lost have largely been recovered.
Yet the combination of global economic instability and the effects of our electricity crisis have meant that our economy continues to grow too slowly and is unable to create jobs at the pace we need.
Cyril Ramaphosa
The South African president provides celebratory statement immediately followed by an acknowledgement of the fact that it has taken South Africa a relatively lengthy period of time to get it’s economy back on track. Nevertheless, we applaud the resilience of South Africans to restore order to their lives by growing the economy in new and innovative ways.
Much like many other countries, South Africa’s tourism sector took a particularly big hit during the pandemic. We can only expect that things will take time to normalise, hopefully for the better. With the country set to face New Zealand in finals tonight and considerable progress in resolving their electricity crisis, many remain optimistic about the rainbow nation’s future prospects.
